Welcome to the official website of the Association for the Beatification of Empress Zita
Discovering the association
The Association was founded in consultation with Dom Dupont, Abbot of Solesmes until 2022, and with Archduke Rudolf of Austria, eldest grandson of Blessed Charles of Austria and Empress Zita. The Association for the Beatification of Empress Zita, governed by the 1901 law, is being run ever since its creation in 2009 by a Board of Directors, which includes Jean Sévillia, journalist and historian, and Elizabeth Montfort, former Member of the European Parliament.
The objective of the association is to:
- Provide information on Zita’s life, her spirituality, her writings, the far-reaching impact of her historical actions, as Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary (1892-1989),
- Promote the values that helped Zita go through her many trials: fidelity and spousal love, serenity and trust in divine Providence, spirit of service and dedication, especially toward people in dire straits and children, self-giving, respect for the dignity of each person,
- Work for the fidelity and fertility of couples and families in today’s modern world
- Offer to any person of good will an example of life spent in the service of others
- To make Zita’s personal, family and historical actions known and recognized and to promote her cause of beatification and canonization.
Zita's life
Zita de Bourbon Parma was born on 9 May 1892 at the Villa delle Pianore, in the province of Lucca, Tuscany, located between Pietrasanta and Viareggio, Italy. She is the seventeenth child of Robert I of Parma and his wife Maria-Antonia of Braganza, daughter of King Michael I, former King of Portugal, who settled in Austria after losing his throne in 1834. His own father Robert of Parma was the last reigning duke of the Duchy of Parma. While still a minor, he lost his throne during the social and political unrest that were working toward the unification of Italy. These events bore an everlasting imprint on Zita’s family…
